A rectilinear desk clock mounted on an oval steel platform with narrow rounded edge case wrapped in light calf-skin or pig-skin leather with a circular clear plastic dial cover held in place by round steel tacks.
Dial: Applied white plastic baton and quarterly placed Arabic hour chapter, white plastic tapered baton hands, all against the leather ground with the name, 'Imhof'' in black. in the upper part of the dial.
Movement: Secured to the back of the case with screws this is a spring wound timepiece made like a watch with a fifteen jeweled mechanical movement having a central knob to set the time and a regulator screw for faster and slower(initialed in French and English). serial number 242040.
Condition: Functional. In very nice condition with minimal darkening at the edges of the leather, wear to the firm's name, and scratches to the back of the movement.
An attractive , 15 jewel, art deco Swiss rectangular leather bound clock with a round dial. The base made of polished steel . The clock was bought in Zurich, Switzerland. Not being a clock expert I have refrained from looking into its interior. I can say that when it is wound up it works away happily. It is quite a quiet clock. I can see that there are some watchmakers' scratches to the rear.
Imhof was founded in 1924, manufactured its own line of clocks and made them of fine quality. Exhibited their line of clocks at the New York World's Fair (1940) and again at the Basil Fair (1949).
They continued in business until 1988 when they merged with another longtime manufacturer in Switzerland, Jean Roulet SA.
