From the mark ( " 875" ) this piece would , without doubt, appear to be silver gilt ( i.e. , in this case, a layer of 21 carat gold was applied to the piece's silver mount ) and East European in origin, i.e. from Russia or possibly Poland. The amber colour is typical of pieces found in the Baltic region. It has indeed a truly lovely rich translucent orange colour. There is a mark to the left of " 875 " but it is, unfortunately, simply not legible. For collectors of amber we do believe that this item will be of significant interest.
