Maker's mark unclear, the surface fluted to the centre, surrounded by pierced and embossed panels of bamboo, prunus and other flowers and fruits within leaf scroll borders, on a broad stem and moulded circular foot. Made , circa 1910.
Size: height: 10 cm. ( 3 15/16" ), diameter : 23 cm. ( 9 1/16" ). Weight : 392g.
Condition : very good - note, however, a very gentle and small but hardly noticeable dent to the top rim in one spot.
This really is of superb quality with finely detailed embossed decoration. It is marked " Shanghai." The silver mark is that of Wing On & Co. which started trading in 1907. It was the first Shanghai department store along with Sincere & Co. Wing On & Co. was not a silver maker, rather a retailer. There is also an additional small mark on the inside of the base ( perhaps a maker's mark but it is not decipherable )!
Caragh Antiques.
