A beautiful silver ( 800 ) mounted glass bottle/carafe by Wilhelm Binder of Germany. The factory was founded in 1868. Stamped appropriately for German 800 standard with the maker's mark. Concerning the maker's mark please note that what looks like the letter T is in fact the symbol of a hammer! The silver top in the form of a flower with a round cut stopper ( which fits perfectly and tightly ). Wilhelm Binder was a master craftsman and his pieces are highly collectible. The precise function of the piece is unknown to me but it would make a perfect carafe for say an after dinner liqueur ( supper for two only ! ) or for scent...? Whatever, a delightful piece.

Wilhelm Binder (Silberwarenfabrik W. Binder) was founded in July 1868 in Schwäb Gmünd - one of the centres of the German silver and gold industry - as silverware dealers. In 1873, the firm's founder, Wilhelm Binder, became co-owner with Dominikus Rudolph of a factory for small silverware in Schwäb Gmünd In 1884, they took over the famous silverware company of Dominikus Kott, which was first established in 1829.

In 1898 the firm built a new factory to house its workforce of 300 people. This made Wilhelm Binder one of the largest of the German silversmiths in Schwäb Gmünd which had over 120 gold and silverware manufacturers at the turn of the 20th century. Wilhelm Binder's silverware reflects the changing styles of the late-19th and early-20th century. Their work was highly regarded, not just for the design, but also for its superb workmanship. Although the firm was an enthusiastic adopter of the Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil style, their later works were much plainer - they even won a gold medal at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition for a stylish silver and ivory goblet designed by Wilhelm Wahl.

Size : 19.6 cm. ( 7 23/32" ) tall , 6.5 cm. ( 2 9/16" ) wide.

Weight: 396 g. ( 14 ounces ).

Condition: very good - note, one small sediment stain from a liquid on the inside on one panel ( see photos ) - its not a chip/scratch. Otherwise no defects or flaws.
