On offer for sale is a very early needlework sampler dated 1801. That makes this piece about 220 years of age. It's a great looking piece, but it's not perfect. It has discoloration, staining, wear and fading. Some of the lettering in the verses has faded and there are just a few extremely tiny little holes. At the top is the British Royal Crest with (G lll R), which is King George lll. In the center it's signed and dated in needlework (Elizabeth Payne Aged 9). At the lower section is the tree of Life with Adam and Eve. There are some lovely decorations and decorative border along with several verses. Approximate dimensions `8 1/4 inches by 21 1/2 inches including the frame and 16 inches by 19 1/4 inches of the visible sampler. Comes with it's old frame which shows signs of age such as wear and usage marks, but suits the sampler very well. Young ladies of means were required to complete samplers such as this to put their needlework skills to the test, plus to show their status in society. Please view all images as they form part of the description. As with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show signs of age as described, after all, this is a very old piece of needlework.
