On offer for sale is an extremely decorative needlework sampler or silk-work panel of a bird dating to the latter part of the 19th. Century. Possibly of Japanese origin?? Approximate dimensions 23 3/4 inches by 19 3/8 inches including the frame and 19 3/4 inches by 15 1/4 inches of the visible sampler. The condition is not perfect, there is some discolorations, staining and age marks to the silk backing and a small hole in the silk backing on the upper right edge and a little crumpling on the bottom edge towards the right side. There is also a small hole in the center along with some minor wear within the red flowers. The eye of the bird looks like it could be made from glass?, and there is a break and small missing piece of glass. Comes with it's original birds-eye maple frame which it shows no sign of ever being out of. The frame has some age, wear and usage marks, but looks perfect with this needlework. Please view all images as they form part of the description. This is a bold and attractive looking piece with it's equally attractive frame. As with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show signs of age as described, after all, this is a very old piece of needlework. Please note, all images were taken under glass, so there is some reflection in some of the pictures.
