On offer for sale is a needlework sampler dating to 1831. That makes this piece about 190 years of age. Approximate dimensions 15 1/2 inches by 19 1/4 inches including the frame and 12 1/2 inches by 16 inches of the visible sampler. The condition is not perfect, there are some holes, the worst being in the top section, and some fading and wrinkling. This is still a very good quality and good looking piece with nice clear and vibrant colors. Signed and dated in needlework (Ann Bridge April 11th. 1831). There's a nice verse in the center "On Education". Comes in a later, older frame. Young ladies of means were required to complete samplers such as this to put their needlework skills to the test, plus to show their status in society. As with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show signs of age, after all, this is a very old piece of needlework. Please note, all images were taken under glass, so there may be some reflection in some of the pictures.
