On offer for sale is a very early needlework sampler dated 1772. That makes this sampler about 247 years old. The fact that it still exists today is amazing. Approximate dimensions 12 1/2 inches by 17 1/4 inches including the frame and 7 5/8 inches by 12 1/2 inches of the visible sampler. Signed and dated in needlework (Mary Eburne March 25 1772). The condition is not perfect, there are some small holes and there is a small area missing in the lower left corner, but this is to be expected for a sampler of this age. A little discoloration and fading. Colors are still good and there is some very interesting stitching in this sampler. Comes with a birds eye maple frame with a new backing to keep it well protected. This type of work was required by young ladies of means as part of their education back in the day. I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with this sampler, but as with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show normal signs of age as described. Please note, all images were taken under glass, so there is likely some reflection in some of the pictures.
