On offer for sale is a beautiful quality needlework sampler dated 1833. The condition is good for it's age, especially when you consider it's around 186 years old. There are no holes and the colors are still vibrant. Approximate dimensions 15 inches by 19 inches including the frame and 12 inches by 16 inches of the visible sampler. Signed and dated in needlework (Elizabeth Thurman aged 10 years 1833). The scene depicts two prominent eagles either side of a cottage. Nottingham Castle in the lower area. Alphabet and numbers in the top area. A nice short verse and decorative border. This sampler still retains it's original frame, which is always a bonus with a vintage sampler such as this. The frame shows obvious signs of age with some wear and usage marks, but no more than you would expect for a piece of this age. You also need to take into account that this work was done by a 10 year old girl back in the days when this type of work was required by young ladies of means as part of their education. I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with this sampler, but as with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show normal signs of age.
