On offer for sale is a top quality ladies vanity box and jewelry box combination dating to circa 1870. Made from rosewood with solid brass trim and brass recessed handles. Approximate dimensions 12 1/4 inches long by 9 1/2 inches wide and 6 3/4 inches high. Knockout quality box, which weighs almost 15 lbs. Top lifts open to reveal numerous silver plated glass containers, and a manicure set. The four larger glass containers at the back have screw off lids and glass stoppers. Two of the screw off lids have age cracks in them, but only minor and still work perfectly well. Lower front drawer pulls out to reveal a section for jewelry. This pulls out using the key, but the key is just decorative and does not seem to operate the lock. The drawer has beautiful quality dove-tail construction. There is a flap inside the lid which folds down to reveal a compartment to store notes or letters which also has the name of the store which originally sold the box (Robinson & Son 53 Great Queen St.) The lock is signed piccadilly. The condition is good for it's age with normal wear, usage marks, minor blemishes due to age and very minor restorations. This is an exceptional quality box that looks and feels stunning inside and out. I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with this piece, but please bear in mind it is a vintage item and will show normal signs of age as described.
