On offer for sale is a wonderful vintage needlework sampler dated 1832. This sampler is in totally original condition including the frame, which I can see no signs it has been out of. Approximate dimensions 13 3/4 inches by 18 3/4 inches including the frame and 11 1/4 inches by 16 1/4 inches of the visible sampler. Signed and dated in needlework (Jane Butterfield Aged 10 years in the year 1832). The condition is good for it's age, especially when you consider it is 187 years old, but does have some discolorations and fading due to it's age, and which should be expected. The frame has lots of wear and usage marks with some paint loss along the sides, but is perfect just as it is for this beautiful old piece of history. The sampler is still in it's original stretcher backing. Lots of interesting detail work in this sampler, please check out all of the images. There are two cherubs at the top with a crown and nice verse. Down below is Adam and Eve and the Tree of Life. In the center is a sailing ship with a smaller boat to the left. This could indicate that this young ladies family was from a seafaring background. Looks to be a strawberry border. Animals, trees and other flowers. This sampler has it all. It's a great piece, and all original with loads of character. You also need to take into account that this work was done by a 10 year old girl back in the days when this type of work was required by young ladies of means as part of their education. I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with this sampler, but as with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show normal signs of age such as described. Please note, all images were taken under glass, so there is likely some reflection in some of the pictures.
