On offer for sale is a beautiful quality needlework sampler dated 1825. The condition is good for it's age, but it's not perfect. It has some discoloration and fading, and a few very minor and hardly worth mentioning very small holes. Please check out all of the images to view the immense amount of detail work. The outside border is a work of art in itself. There are trees, flowers, crowns, crosses and other designs. Signed in needlework (Elizabeth Cagill Finished this September 27 1825 aged 11 years). Approximate dimensions 16 3/4 inches by 20 1/4 inches including the frame and 12 1/2 inches by 16 inches of the visible sampler. Young ladies of means back in the day were required to test their needlework skills by producing a sampler such as this, which could have taken a year or more to complete. This would have been considered an essential part of their education to acquire these needlework skills. This is ready to be hung on the wall and admired. If you like vintage samplers with character then you will not be disappointed with this piece, but please do not expect it to be perfect as it will show normal signs of age, after all, this sampler is 193 years old.
