On offer for sale is a 19th. Century oil painting on wooden panel of a horse and rider. Approximate dimensions 19 inches by 15 1/4 inches including the frame and 12 3/8 inches by 8 3/4 inches of the visible painting. The condition is good for it's age, but not perfect. There is some discoloration due to age and crazing to the paintwork along with some other age, wear and usage marks. I like the painting just as it is with it's aged appearance and patina. The scene depicts a rider on horseback with two other horses in the distance in a rural countryside setting. There's an old name painted on the back that looks like it may possibly read (H. Atken)?, but it's difficult to read. There's also an old paper label that reads E. Newman. Comes with a beautiful old quality antique frame. The frame is not perfect and has wear, discolorations, usage marks, minor gesso loss, but suits the painting perfectly. This is a very handsome painting and frame which in my opinion look great just as they are. If you like antique items that show signs of their age then you will not be disappointed with this piece, but please bear in mind this is a vintage item and will show normal signs of it's age as described.
