On offer for sale is an early 19th. Century needlework sampler. Approximate dimensions 17 1/4 inches by 21 1/4 inches including the frame and 13 inches by 17 inches of the visible sampler. Signed in needlework (Martha Golders Work Aged 12 Years). Please check out all of the images to see the fine needlework with letters, numbers, birds, animals and a very decorative strawberry design outer border. You will notice there are three old sailing ships as well, which could likely infer this young ladies father was from a naval or merchant sailing background. The sampler looks very impressive, but it is not perfect and has some age and wear holes which in my opinion do not detract at all, and when you consider this piece is in the region of two hundred years old, it's doing remarkably well. The sampler has been mounted on board within an old birds eye maple frame with a replaced backing board. The frame is not perfect with some age loss and usage marks, but suits the sampler very well. All part of a young ladies education back in the day was to learn needlework skills and these samplers were a good way to show off their skills. This is ready to be hung on the wall and admired. I can't imagine anyone could be disappointed with this sampler, but please remember this is a vintage item and will show normal signs of wear and usage marks.
