Beautiful quality vintage needlework sampler dated 1803. That makes this piece about 219 years of age. Approximate dimensions 12 1/2 inches by 19 3/8 inches including the frame and 10 1/2 inches by 17 1/2 inches of the visible sampler. Signed and dated in needlework (Eliza Fisher Aged 7, 1803 of Our Lord). The condition is good for it's age but not perfect. There is some discoloration and fading due to age. Lots of very interesting wildlife in this sampler with two reindeer, a variety of birds, butterflies and a large squirrel in the tree. There is a cherub either side of the young ladies name. This is a very lovely sampler. Comes in a later frame that suits it well. Young ladies of means were required to complete samplers such as this to put their needlework skills to the test, plus to show their status in society. Please view all images as they form part of the description. As with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show normal signs of age as described, after all, this is a very old piece of needlework. Please note, all images were taken under glass, and there is some white reflection on some of the images.
