Needlework sampler dated 1856. That makes this piece about 166 years of age. Approximate dimensions 16 1/4 inches by 17 inches including the frame and 12 3/4 inches by 13 3/4 inches of the visible sampler. The condition is good for it's age with some fading a a tiny spot of wear to the border in the lower left corner, but that's hardly worth mentioning. Come with it's original, quality oak frame. Signed and dated in needlework (Lucy Harwood Finished this Work , Sutton School, March 1856). This is a very attractive looking sampler with a nice verse and decorative border. Young ladies of means were required to complete samplers such as this to put their needlework skills to the test, plus to show their status in society. Please view all images as they form part of the description. As with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show normal signs of age as described, after all, this is a very old piece of needlework. Please note, all images were taken under glass, so there is likely some reflection on some of the images.
