On offer for sale is a vintage needlework sampler. The condition is good for it's age with some fading and discolorations. Signed and dated in needlework on the lower edge (Mary Davies 1796). Decorated with the alphabet, the Royal Crown with the lion and the unicorn, some birds and what looks to be a squirrel? and some trees on the bottom edge. Approximate dimensions 10 inches by 19 inches including the frame and 7 7/8 inches by 17 inches of the visible sampler. Comes with an appropriate later frame. Young ladies of means were required to complete samplers such as this to put their needlework skills to the test, plus to show their status in society. Please view all images as they form part of the description. As with all vintage pieces such as this you should not expect them to be perfect as they will show normal signs of age as described, after all, this is an old piece of needlework.
