A superb example of an elegant and tactile French stickpin with an equine subject. C1890
Very cleverly inlaid with polished multishaded marbled agate to look and feel virtually seamless. Has the allusion to three and four 'nails' to the shoe as the real article. In very good condition with no evident damage or repairs. Has the French mark of a tiny boars head on the back of the horseshoe. This is the late 19th century mark for 950 quality above sterling silver. Full length is around 2 1/2 inches. The ridged area of the pin helps to grip the fabric and be securely held. End of the pin is still sharp for use.
Probably used to pin into a riding or hunting stock / cravat. A fabulous gift for a gentleman or a horse loving lady?
Thanks for looking, hope you love it!
