Unique item of early 19th century Georgian sentimental jewellery. C1810.
Superbly crafted from human hair of a brunette shade. This could be a mourning piece or a sentimental keepsake. Hair is woven into two different tubular styles so shows as alternate tightly woven smooth design contrasting with a more openwork weave pattern. This delightful hairwork is attached to a fabulous intricately embossed pinchbeck clasp which has 3 red glass paste stones set into cut back collets. Each side of the clasp has 11 hand drilled holes. Length is about 7 1/4 inches. Height of the clasp is approx. 1 1/4 inches. The pinchbeck finish is still in excellent order as to be expected. Hair is a little worn in places but pretty good for 200 years old!!
Hopefully still to be worn as an occasional delight and certainly a great addition to a collection too! I am including this very attractive inlaid Victorian trinket box as a gift.
