A beautiful Limoges decorator plate with the A. Lanternier backstamp. Alfred Lanternier worked in Limoges France for his father's porcelain export business beginning in 1887. This 9-l/2" plate has an interesting shape with edges of scallops and waves. The wide rim is gilded. In the center is a spray of delicately painted flowers, stems, and leaves. The colors are very soft in pinks, lavenders, and pale green.
This piece is in great condition with no chips or crazing. There are raised areas around the plate which show the white porcelain coming thru. I am not sure if these are areas of paint loss or if they were original to the piece.
