Offering a majolica 8-3/4 inch plate with a floral border and the center finished in a mottled glaze of green, brown, and yellow. The outside raised edge of the plate features the yellow color that is repeated in the center of the plate. The 1-3/4 inch rim is decorated with a series of raised flowers, leaves and flower buds. The painting is done in shades of green for the leaves and outer edges of the flowers and with lavender and yellow in the center of the flowers. The brown background sets the design off nicely.
The back of the plate is inconsistent in its finish. Approximately half has a brown glaze in place. The other half appears and feels like it is not glazed.
There are no marks on the piece. This exact design, however, is pictured on page 93 of Majolica American & European Wares by Jeffrey B. Snyder & Leslie Bockol. They attribute the piece to Adams & Bromley an English company producing majolica between 1873 and 1886.
Condition: There are no chips on this plate. The center part is lightly scratched over its surface.
