We offer this French silverplate soup ladle marked SFAM on the back. SFAM is the mark of the Chambly Silver Co. now operating in Paris. Our internet research indicates that SFAM was a silver and silverplate manufacturing company started in 1894 in Northern France. This nice heavy ladle measures 12-3/4 inches long. The bowl measures 3-1/2 inches across.
The handle is beautifully decorated both at the top and where the bowl meets the handle. On the back the handle is elaborately decorated as well. There is a monogram on the back in a script that we are unable to read.
The front of the ladle near the base of the bowl bears the mark 10GR on one side. On the other side is the mark "metal alliage blanc" meaning white metal alloy. This ladle has been used and there is some light scratching in the bowl. However, it is in overall very good condition.
