Caricature and cartoon, in graphic art, comically distorted drawing or likeness, done with the purpose of satirizing or ridiculing its subject. Cartoons are used today primarily for conveying political commentary and editorial opinion in newspapers and for social comedy and visual wit in magazines.
From Wikipedia : "Fabien Fabiano (1882, Lamballe – 1962), pseudonym of Jules Coup de Fréjac, was a French illustrator, portrait painter, and designer. He was descended from a family of sailors and privateers in Brittany, spending his childhood in the small port of Dahouët. He studied in Saint-Servan and then did his military service in Saint-Malo before moving to Paris in 1900. He was married to Nadine Khouzan who was a pianist virtuoso. He attended the preparatory workshop of École des Beaux-Arts, and the Académie Colarossi and took lessons with Alphonse Mucha. His early illustrations were published in major magazines such as the New-York Tribune, La Vie Parisienne, and Fantasio. He traveled frequently and painted the portraits of society members, famous artists of the Golden Age of Hollywood, and political figures."
I have not examined it out of the wrapping. I don't know what magazine it is from but guarantee this is an original magazine illustration C.1905.
Sheet size - Height - approx. - 10"
Width - approx. - just under 8".
Condition: This has been trimmed somewhat unevenly from a magazine page. The paper has some darkening from age toning. There is pencil writing that goes into the image in the bottom left corner. There is most likely text printed on the back.
The print has been placed against a sheet of white faced poster board or thin cardboard covered with a sheet of plastic wrap that has been scotch taped against the back. The back isn't completely sealed. I have not taken it apart because I think the paper might be brittle and I don't wish to damage it with handling.
