The name of the etching is "The Sea Serpent". It is signed "Elihu Vedder" and dated "1864" in the lower left of the image. It is titled and inscribed below the center of the image "The Sea Serpent", "From the Original in the Possession of T.C. Appleton, Esq Boston". Elihu Vedder was an American artist who was born in 1836. In his later years he spent a lot of time in Italy and died there in 1923.

Condition: The paper is slightly age toned and there is some slight soiling in the margins and on the back. There is a strip of old glue ? remnants along the top edge on the back side. Guaranteed to be old and as described.
