A very special gem indeed...
This beauty of a gem dates back to circa 1875 Ratlam India. You see here a scene of a lion hunting down a deer and this stunning image was created by a process called thewa, where a scene is cut out in super fine sheet of gold and then fused to coloured glass at high heat!! The glass here is green in the centre with blue tone on the edges. We have a video available to show this shading better, the colour is very much just like peacock's feather ! The original casing is 18 carat gold and has been tested as it is not hallmarked. She was originally an antique pin but has been converted to a pendant. Items from Ratlam India can be found on the Royal Collection Trust website so you can see the resemblance if you would like to look it up. And of course you can go on there to read more about this fascinating jewellery !!
Our pendant measures 21.3 mm side to side, 19 mm north to south - 24.9 mm including the bale. It is 3.7 mm deep and weighs 4.9 grams. It is in lovely condition with just a couple of very faint points of discolouration of the gold at the reverse, where the pin was removed.
We love ..... the depth of colours and the opalescence of the beautiful green blue glass.... the gold decoration is wonderful, the skill so impressive ....the rich history fascinating.
