La Bague au Firmament ...... the Ring of the Heavens ...... this one certainly is that in more ways than one.
Famously, Marie Antoinette had a plaque ring with dark blue enamel symbolising the night skies with the sprinkling of diamonds as stars and the diamond surround. She wore hers nearly every day and they became highly fashionable in the late 18th all through to the early 19th century.
This Bague au Firmament ring is the most special that we have ever seen ( that could be purchased :) and are lucky to own. The classic French shape of the plaque is typically framed with a diamond surround but the centre is different in the most heavenly way !! The bright royal blue enamelled plaque is filled with tiny rose cut diamonds forming an unusual, finely plated criss-cross pattern. The effect is beyond stunning, it is breathtaking !!
The ring is not hallmarked so we carefully acid tested it and it is 18 carat gold while the diamond settings are made in silver. The ring is a fine example of early French work dating from around 1780 and it is in very good condition considering it's age and how much loved and worn these were at the time. It is a wonderful size, with the plaque measuring 0.86 inches north to south and 0.44 inches side to side. Including the fluted shoulders the top of the ring is 0.75 inches wide and it is a size US 5.5 and UK L. It can be sized up moderately but we would not recommend adjusting the size down as to not affect the stability of the construction of the ring. It weighs 3.6 grams.

We are in love ......with this most beautiful of les Bagues au Firmaments for the one of a kind delicate display of twinkly fabulousness. This 18th century sky is unrivalled in the heaven's beauty contest..... this sky is the prettiest of them all......
