This Georgian natural citrine seal fob is just fabulous, and not only because of that fine gemstone carved into an intaglio!! Let's look at this touching motto.. It is connected to the Hobart Family and most interestingly Right Honorable Robert Hobart, First Earl of Buckinghamshire of 1746 and a line of Hobarts who were Baronets, Lords & Earl's before and after him!!! The original founder of the family, Sir James Hobart was the Attorney-General to HENRY THE VII !!! AUCTOR PRECIOSA FACIT is their family motto!!! Now before we get too excited.. the initials you see here in Tudor script - JT do not directly link this fob to him, that we can see but.. it may have belonged to someone in this family.. Also, the motto is accompanied by that stunning intaglio of the tree of life and the belt symbolising never ending loyalty. Perhaps it is a crest of a family with strong connections and loyalties to the Hobarts. We have to draw your attention to the stunning autumnal golden glow that beautifully faceted, foil backed citrine possesses - what dreams are made of !! The seal is also a gorgeous, large size. We can't estimate the carat size of the citrine because of the closed back setting but it is big! The seal is 1.12 inches long and it's face measures 1.07 by 0.85 inches.The seal dates back to around 1800 Georgian England and is made of 12-15 carat gold, which we tested as there are no hallmarks. The citrine's surface is just marginally smaller than that!! This amazing piece of early jewellery weighs a super 17.2 grams and is in fantastic antique condition - just one tiny chip to mention in-between the two letters of the initials, otherwise there are super minimal abrasions to the facet edges. And the foiling is great!! The seal had certainly been used, you can still see tiny traces of red wax on the groves of the engraving :)

We love ....... this weighty, substantial Georgian seal, the beautiful quality of the carved gem and wish we could have taken a peak at letters sealed with it......whoever is going to be the next keeper of this antique piece will be wearing history around their neck ....... gorgeous history at that.....
