Here we have a hunting stickpin/tie pin, an example of German style of jewellery called Jagdschmuck. These traditional hunting trophies usually feature floral designs of oak leaves, acorns and animal teeth.
The stickpin is not hallmarked but proved to be 14 carat gold by testing. It comes in it's original box of a German jewellery retailer, C.E.Keyser Juwelier of Peterstrasse 11. Leipzig. It must have spent most of it's 100 years of life ( we think it was made around 1910 ) in that box as it is in pristine condition.
The stickpin is 2.95 inches long and weighs 2 grams. The head of the stickpin measures 0.77 by 0.43 inches. The yellow gold is of lovely, rich yellow tone and the original fire gilding is intact, giving the intricate design of the leaves an almost honey, autumnal colour.
We love ........ all manners of old traditions and the autumn in Bavaria is magical. We are about to rummage for our lederhosen and long wooly socks....Hot, spiced wine is such a nice thought on the cold, nippy afternoon........:)
