'Judith Jones OB 21st August 1871 etat 65'.
Judith is memorised by this stunning mourning buckle band ring. We adore the sweet form of a buckle used to symbolise the never ending love and loyalty for her. The ring was actually made in 1869 (assayed in Birmingham, date letter U) as mourning rings were often chosen and prepared in advance, as was the custom then. It is made of 18 carat buttery yellow gold and is fully hallmarked inside. It is also engraved with the words I started this description with. The black engraving and gold chase work are so beautiful, what a gorgeous way to decorate this ring! The buckle section is 7.56 mm wide and the rest of the band is 5.38 mm! The ring sits 1.96 mm off the finger and is a US size 6.25 (UK M 1/2) and of course cannot be sized at all. It weighs 3.6 grams and is in lovely antique condition - just a few things to note. 1) the black enamel is a weee bit worn here and there, but barely so - I'm being really picky! It looks to have been retouched around the buckle (not by us but it's a superb job!) 2) One rose cut diamond has been replaced at some point with an old mine cut, this is definitely an old replacement! 3) The wee locket glass is missing. But these are very minor things that one doesn't need to worry about as they do not detract from the look and do not affect the use of the ring. If you want to carry a flame for Judith or add the unusual enamelled buckle band to your collection, please message us .
We love ....... the fabulous and unusual shape of the ring and the superb inscription. We value it's sentiment and how collectible it is. The mourning rings are also highly desirable, worn and loved for the fabulous jewellery that they are.
