This beautiful brooch was made in Georgian England around 1800.
Like most of the jewellery back then it was not hallmarked so we carefully tested it and it is 15 carat gold.
Designed in a gorgeous simple oval shape it has an oval locket compartment fitted out with rich purple silk and a faceted crystal. Around it are 18 perfect table cut amethysts set in pinch closed back settings and foiled underneath. The reverse is perfect too, fashioned as a very slight dome and nearly as pretty as the front of it.
The brooch measures 1.32 by 1.12 inches and is 0.35 inches thick including the pin. It weighs 9.4 grams. The amethysts are 4 by 4 mm on average. This early treasure is in wonderful condition, both the gold work and all the stones.
We love ....... the wonderful rich splash of the distinguished purple in this this brooch and the lovely foiled amethysts are just out of this world, so pinky and bright. We love the amazing effect of it and a fantastic simple elegance it exudes.
