This fabulous piece was made by one of the most prominent French Art Nouveau makers of the period, along with Rene Lalique and Gautrait Lucien.
This important avant-garde movement was started in Europe by a select group of artists and concentrated on organic, fluid forms and movement. Enamel features as the most prolific and expressive medium of decoration of the Nouveau pieces. Henri Dubret ( 1872-1947 ) was based in Dijon and later in Paris.
This wonderful slide is designed to be worn on a long chain. It is made in 18 carat gold ( tested ) and has a wonderful antique patina, created by the original gilding in rich yellow colour with rose gold showing on the slide's back.
Fashioned as a gold laurel wreath around an urn it was a remembrance piece. An urn symbolises mourning and eternal remembrance while the laurel wreath is symbolic of the victory over death. This represents a connection with the Victorian custom of wearing of the mourning jewellery but is executed in the new and modern way of the 1900's, with a nod to the more traditional, neoclassical design. The urn is beautifully enamelled in white and teal green-blue and features a fine gold detail. Both the top and the small drop are set with a rose cut diamond in a platinum mille grained setting. An oval natural pearl at the bottom adds a perfect finishing touch. The slide weighs 5.9 grams and measures 1.02 by 0.76 inches with the drop included. Henri Dubret maker's mark as well as the numbers feature on the back.
This wonderful piece of jewellery is in absolutely perfect condition, both gold work and enamel which will please the Art Nouveau collectors out there.
