Presenting to you our magical Night Sky Ribbon ring! We gave this Georgian wonder her name because she really does make you think of a winter's night sky with all those little stars twinkling away…….
She is a late Georgian beauty dating back to around 1820-1830 and exudes so much charm it's quite extraordinary… She stuns with a mixture of silvery coppery coloured old cut diamonds, old mine cut diamonds and rose cut diamonds. They are echoed by the rosy, coppery tone of the gold with it's lovely antique patina. The deep royal blue of the guilloche enamel, semi-translucent and twinkly in itself is a host to the myriad of stars, some bigger, some smaller, some brighter……..just like the real night sky, only transformed into a ribbon……..
The motif of the Bague au Firmament or " Ring of Heaven " was popularised in late 1700's in France by Marie Antoinette. The usual shape was that of a large oval, navette or octagon and ours is a smaller but more unusual form of a ribbon. It is not hallmarked so we very carefully acid tested it and it is 18 carat gold. She is about a 5 3/8 sizewise, UK size K 1/2, perhaps a touch bigger (tricky to size exactly on my measuring stick! But she fits perfectly on my 5 3/8 ring finger, even a titch loose. ) and non resizable due to the enamel. She is in very good antique condition with just a bit of wear to the enamel and minimal nibbles to some of the diamonds. Who wouldn't after so many years?? :)
Since these tiny imperfections are only visible under magnification and since it is so rare to see your stars in a beautiful night sky all lined up in a flowing ribbon…….we just had to have it and love it so much!!………..and we hope you will too….
