I absolutely adore these hoops! They are a fine example of Victorian mourning (or keepsake) jewellery, made in England around 1850. The craftsmanship and weaving of the caramel brown hair is outstanding - with a 10 x loupe it is just magic! The perfect addition to one's collection and how magnificent they look on... they behold that wonderful antique charm, while all at the same time they look like a contemporary creation. The main body of the hoops is made of 18 carat yellow gold - there are no hallmarks but the metal has been acid tested.
A good sized hoop, each earring measures about 2.10 x 1.72 x 0.15 inches and together they weigh 7.3 grams. Clearly cherished, these earrings are in the most fantastic condition with no signs of damage or repair. Just a couple of tiny fraying hairs, only natural for a piece of this age.
