What do we have here?? An Art Nouveau locket to die for, with the life like relief of a woman's profile and diamond decorated hair, adorning a lucky four leaf clover. This piece is Austro-Hungarian and was made in Vienna, around 1890. It is made of 580 carat gold (near enough 14 carat) and is hallmarked on the sliding clasp with the foxes head for 580 gold with an A on the left hand side of it (which stands for Vienna) and what would be a number 4 on the right hand side but this part is rubbed out (last photo). This hallmark was used between 1872 and 1922. There are 6, charming, rose cut diamonds, the central one being a real stunner - bright white, clean and rather large! It is difficult to estimate rose cut weights, especially in closed back settings, but it has a diameter of 3.57 mm and has a great height. There is also what looks like a maker's mark on the bale but unfortunately I can't make this out.. (last photo).
The pendant measures 1.49 x 1.10 inches (HxW including the bale) and has a 6.48 mm thickness when it is closed. The two lockets inside have their original, rose gold frames and inserts, and there is even an old photo of a wee baby, perhaps the original :). Both inserts are a little chipped on the edges but this can't really be seen when the frames are in. If you wish the photo to be taken out, you could put two photos of your own in no problem! One can hold photos in there with a diameter of 0.73 inches. It has a delicious weight of 10.5g. It is in very good antique condition with just the gilding having worn off on the back so that the rose gold colour shows, which has tarnished a little - however this cannot be seen when worn. There are also some small marks on the inside of the locket which I have photographed for you.
**The chain is not included with this piece or price! If you are looking for a chain to go with it please do not hesitate to ask me and I will find you one.
