Absolutely divine Georgian Repousse brooch, completely hand-crafted of 18K gold (and higher), genuine natural pearls and garnets, with closed back mounting. Brooches of this period were usually on the smaller side, so to find a larger 2" brooch designed with depth and layers to this degree, is a very special find.
The plume border, scroll work, rather large table with elongated octagon shaped garnet (measures 9.5mm x 11mm), ornate and depth of the design are telltale that this piece must have once belonged to a woman of stature.
Etched by hand into the gold is likely the stone setter's markings, which reads "987 PW". Acid tested positive for 18k Gold. May even be 20 or 22K. The pin stem has a crook in it (latches properly) and a tension adjuster (as found when purchased).
Measures 2" wide x 1.25" H and weighs 12.7 grams
