21 works in Museums and Notable Collections, Chicago World’s Fair 1886, Paris International 1900
Henrik Jespersen was renowned for his light effects, especially his silver blue skies. While others of his generation were going to France and Italy, Henrik was drawn to the Bavaria high country. Mountain lakes were a favorite, as were the Alps. He was highly regarded in his lifetime, and exhibited at all the important shows.
This motif combines two of Jespersen’s favorites, a lake and rocky ground. In addition to pink running through the sky and lake water, his ability to display the light and shadows on the foreground and background is clearly evident.
