After graduating from the Royal Academy in 1910, Hans broadened his artistic vision with a two-year stint in Dresden , and then another two years (1914-1916) in Paris and Auvergne, coming back again 1921. In addition to many exhibitions in Scandinavia, including a retrospective of his work in 1959, he also exhibited at the Salon in Paris in 1920.
Hans settled near the North Sea in 1924, the locale where this motif was probably painted.
