This is really a wonderful work. I bought this work a few years ago, and it has hung in my office since then. I only recently redecorated and have decided to sell the work. For those not familiar with the artist her biography is listed below. This is a wonderful oil on canvas modernist view of a woman and child. Signed upper left corner, it is also signed and titled on the back of the stretcher. It also has the artist's address in Kew Gardens Queens on the back. Based on the address, the painting predates the early 1960s. That would make this one of the artist's earlier works. Overall, the painting is in good condition. Clean and crisp with just some minor surface grime. There is a small scuff and tear in the cheek of the mother but nothing too bad. An easy restoration if the new owner decided to do it. Really an excellent work by this important 20th century artist. Original wood wrap frame around the outside of the painting. Painting measures 16 x 20 inches and the frame measures 17 x 21 inches.
For those not familiar with the artist, her biography from a website that exhibited the artists work reads, "Gloria Longval is an American artist of Cuban, Spanish and French ancestry, born in 1931 in the Cuban community of Ybor City, Tampa, Florida. Much of her work of the past three decades draws on memories of her experiences with her grandmother and great grandmother, both of whom were curanderas. Longval’s work is in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, El Museo Nacional Palacio de Bellas Artes de la Habana, Cuba, the San Diego Museum and others. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States and in Mexico, Canada and England"
