Truly a wonderful painting. The work comes out of the Museum Collection of the Rockport Art Association. It was de-accessed back in 2001 and I have owned it since. For those not familiar with the artist, there is a small biography at the bottom of this listing. Oil on masonite measuring 12 1/2 x 24 inches. Signed lower right corner. Gorgeous clean untouched condition. There look to be a few tiny flakes of paint loss in the sky and road but nothing too bad. I am actually not sure if they are losses as they look like spots that actually did not get painted. A wonderful Cape Ann modernist work with great color and composition. Original frame is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 17 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches. Original descriptive label with details about the work on the back of the frame.
For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from the Frick Collection reads:
"Neil Lovisco Art dealer; Rockport and Gloucester, Mass. In the 1920s, Lovisco ran "The Catacombs," a combination art gallery-tea room in New York City's Greenwich Village. He later operated the Bearskin Neck Art Gallery, Rockport, Mass. (1946-1949), Art Center Gallery, New York, N.Y. (1950s), and the Lovisco Gallery, New York, N.Y. (1957-1973) and Gloucester, Mass. (1973-1979)."
