This is really a great piece. One of the more historic pieces I have had in a few years. Fitz Henry Lane is one of the most important early American artists known for his incredible paintings. What many people dont know is that Lane got his start as a lithographer, first with Pendleton Lithograph Company and then starting his own firm. This is one of the most famous lithographs he created while being a lithographer. A great view across the water of the town of Newburyport. The towns many churches dot the coast while many boats are moving up and down the harbor. There are even a couple of men rigging a boat along the Salisbury side of the water. This is an outstanding example of this rare print. Sheet is in excellent condition with good large margins. The paper measures 19 x 27 1/4 inches. I dont believe the print was ever colored. The page shows a consistent toning. There is a faint vertical line down the center from the original wood backing. There is also a small crease in the center as well. A few small tears along the top margin but nothing too bad. There is also some very minor faint staining along the bottom edge on the left side. Just a great example as it is. I have not taken it out of the frame as it shows some minor rippling so I do not believe it is laid down. It is in its original lemon gold frame which shows some wear but still makes a great presentation of this rare print. New backing looks to be have done in the last few decades or so. Just a great presentation. Do your research on this print. I have found 3 others on the market. One has no margins and is asking nearly double what I am asking. Another in a little better condition is 3 times what I am asking and another one on the market is priced as high 6+ times what I am asking. Dont miss this chance. Frame measures 23 1/4 x 31 1/2 inches.
