Vintage BEATRICE BERLIN (1922-2010) "Islands 6" Mid-Century Modern ABSTRACT Intaglio Etching - image 1 of 9

This is really a wonderful piece. I recently acquired a small collection of works by important American woman printmaker Beatrice Berlin. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. Her abstract works are really incredible. This is an intaglio etching with wonderful texture and composition. Image measures 21 1/4 x 14 1/4 inches. Pencil signed, titled, and numbered below the image. A fine example with great texture. Complete original sheet measures 30 x 22 inches. Original matte left some minor toning to the margins but a new matte and frame would hide this. The image itself is in outstanding condition. Margins show some other minor soiling as well as some other edge bumps and some minor folds. Print is stored rolled in a tube and will be shipped that way. If you collect Beatrice Berlin's work or are new to it and would like to see other examples, check my store. A great opportunity to acquire a few of this important printmakers work. I will combine shipping where available.

For those not familiar with the artist, her biography from "North American Woman Artists of the Twentieth Century" reads: "Born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, the printmaker/ painter Beatrice Berlin received her education at Moore College of Art in her native city. She also studied printmaking with Sam Maitlin and Hitoshi Nakazato. Between 1965 and 1989 Berlin has held more than forty solo exhibitions of her drypoints, watercolors, and collographs in galleries, museums, and universities in the United States and abroad; and more than four score group exhibitions, including the "Annuals" at the Philadelphia Watercolor club, The American Color Print Society, Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Print club, Metropolitan Museum of Art, tokyo, Japan and many others. Berlin has been a teacher and lecturer in the Philadelphia area and New Jersey for a number of years. A winner of honors and awards for her prints and watercolors between 1966 and 1984. A board member of Artists Equity Association (1982-1990), and the California Society of Printmakers, Los Angeles (1983-1984). Her work is represented in private, public and corporate permanent collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, UCLA, The New York Public Library, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, Museum of Art, California and many others."
