Walter Bosse designs are important works in Austrian MidCentury decorative arts. In the late 1940s, Bosse produced brass miniatures (mostly animal figurines) with which he showed his admiration for the various creatures of nature. With his colleague, Karl Hagenauer, he created several figures inspired by the “zoo” theme. The “black/gold” interplay between polished and patinated brass was soon known around the world. Perhaps the best known is this iconic hedgehog.
Often copied, this complete set of 6 stacking hedgehogs is genuine Walter Bosse. The hedgehog ashtrays range in size from 1 3/4" to 5" long. Excellent vintage condition.
