This is a beautiful old deep-blue diffused and white stoneware container / cannister. This Diffused Blue design canister was made by A.E. Hull Pottery Co., Ohio, USA. They were in business from 1905, and eventually discontinued art pottery, turning to produce dinnerware and more utilitarian wares. All production ceased in 1986.
It has a molded and swirled bottom design. Truly a rare and wonderful item...you will not find this item all over the internet, and probably not in your hometown either. A search for blue diffused pottery will bring up even more information on this lovely early stoneware.
Blue diffused early items are valued for the embossed designs and the depth of color of the blue, with the darker the blue, being the most preferred and desirable. There is a nice explanation of this, with many pictured examples, in the Antique Trader Antiques and Collectible 2008 Price Guide by Kyle Husfloen.
SIZE: It measures 5 7/8" tall and 4 7/8" wide. This is also a great size to hold kitchen utensils.
CONDITION: There are a few chips on the bottom, but none are very large or noticeable when the container is sitting on a shelf or counter.
It has the usual glaze pops and irregularities, but has NO hairline cracks, NO chips to the top rim or inside where it counts!
