This is a wool Chimayo rug. The colors are beautiful deep reds, gray-brown, black, creams and a gorgeous blue.
The colors are clear and clean.
This rug lies beautifully flat on the floor or hangs well on the wall.
Many of these rugs are found hanging on walls as works of art.
Suitable either for hanging on the wall or using on a table top or floor.
This wool weaving is in what is called the Chimayo weave,
which is basically two stripes and a central design. It was begun in the 1880's.
The stripes are influenced from the Rio Grande blanket, and the center design is influenced by Saltillo tapestry techniques.
Chimayo is a Hispanic Village just north of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
SIZE: The rug measures 19 " by 42" including the salvage end ties.
CONDITION: Exceptional. Very very fine pre owned condition. The salvage end ties are totally intact. I do not see any repairs or snags or holes.
The sides have a slight 'wave'. Soft and pliable with NO moth issues! Nice substantial weight.
HISTORY: Originally owned by a professor / rancher. This gentleman was born in 1876, and acquired this in the early 1900's.
