This a vintage necklace and earring demi parure, or small set. The findings are gold tone. It features gold color chains and sparkly red glass crystals.
All pieces are marked Hobe. I have read that Hobe used an exclusive 22K electro-plating process. Their gold plating is exceptional. Please remember Hobe jewelry was only sold in expensive stores and is of the highest designer quality.
MARKS: Signed Hobe without the copyright mark.
ERA: This trademark signature was first used in 1927, and without the copyright mark this is a pre-1958 mark.
SIZE: The necklace is 16 1/2" long. The earrings are 1" by 3/4". The necklace clasp is a perfect match.
CONDITION: Excellent pre-owned condition. Sparkly clean.
HISTORY: The company was founded by Jacques Hobe, in 1883 in France. After WW-ll William Hobe', the son, moved the company to the U.S.A. In California he made jewelry for the Ziegfeld Follies, and catered to the Hollywood crowd. Hobe jewelry is still being made, but has nothing to do with the original family. Hobe provided jewelry to high end department stores and expensive boutiques. It was the "darling" of Hollywood starlets in the 50's.
