This is a HOBE necklace and earring "small set" or demi parure. This set reflects the fine quality that is the hallmark of all Hobe jewelry. Very mid-century modern.
It features green art glass beads, and aurora borealis faceted glass beads with fancy filigree findings. The necklace clasp is gold tone. It is all original with the Hobe insignia stamped on both sides of the clasp findings.
The matching earrings have beautiful glass stones that have been hand-wired onto the filigree base. They are marked on the back "Hobe".
SIZE: The necklace measures approx 14" to 20" long with an adjustable extension.
CONDITION: Excellent pre-owned condition, with extremely light finish wear on the backs...nothing bad.
HISTORY: The company was founded by Jacques Hobe, in 1883 in France. After WW-ll William Hobe', the son, moved the company to the U.S.A. In California he made jewelry for the Ziegfeld Follies, and catered to the Hollywood crowd. Hobe jewelry is still being made, but has nothing to do with the original family. Hobe provided jewelry to high end department stores and expensive boutiques. It was the "darling" of Hollywood starlets in the 50's. This particular mark is the "pre" copyright mark and was first used in 1926. Item 10426-Hobe
