This antique, French, period Louis XIII cabinet is a traditional, wardrobe or half armoire called a homme-debout which translates into standing man. Some believe the name originated in the Vend̩e region where during the French Revolution, armed men were hidden away between battles. The interior was removed allowing a soldier to hide in the cabinet. This example is arranged in two parts; the smaller top section is fitted with two shelves over a center drawer and base with shelves. It is decorated with oak leaf and acorn carvings as well as striking diamond point paneling in the fashion of Louis XIII.
