Maria was responsible for the revival of the highly burnished black on black pottery of the San Ildefonso Pueblo. This blackware pot is decorated with a feather design around the neck. At first Julian's name was omitted from the signatures since making pottery was considered women's work. From 1925 until Julian's death in 1943 their pots were signed Marie + Julian. This period of their pottery making is high desired by collectors.
