An antique, soft paste porcelain pug dog form bonbonniere all in white. This form of box was used for the storage of sweets to perfume the breath in the 18th century. This example has an oval base with silver mounts; the underside with raised floral sprig decoration. Pug dogs were imported by the Dutch East Indies Trading Company in the 18th century and became a popular pet of the upper classes in France and England.
