An antique painting of a village street scene lined with thatched roof houses, with a girl and an elderly man in conversation standing in the street.
Brendekilde began his career as a social realist but his subjects evolved into more religious and idyllic village scenes. He studied sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts but changed to painting in 1881.
